Summer 2016
Seems like it's been way too long since my last update here. The ease of posting things on social media has drawn (no pun intended) my attention away from my beloved blog. This blog is still my favorite place to post art and ramble. There's something journal-like about it and I feel the work attains a higher value when presented in this format. Social media makes everything seem so fleeting and disposable. Blog entries take a bit more thought and effort. Anyway, I'm flying off on a tangent and though that's certainly a part of what this blog thing is all about, I'll reign myself back in.
So, here are some recent scribbles and such. All of the subjects I tackled in these pieces are real personal favorites of mine. Sam Raimi's "Army of Darkness" starring Bruce Campbell as Ash, is one of my favorite movies ever. To this day it remains utterly unique, fun and endlessly re-watchable. Thundercats is one of my all-time favorite properties as well. I'll be doing a lot more with the Thundercats in the weeks/months to come if all goes according to plan. I intend to do a series of drawings showcasing my favorite Thundercats characters. So far, I've done Lion-o and Tygra, easily my two favorite characters. I guess I kind of skipped to the desert, maybe I should have drawn a few second-stringers first.Anyway look out for plenty more of my personal interpretations of the denizens of Third Earth.
Aside from geeking out on these pieces, I've got a few secret projects brewing. I can't really talk about them but rest assured they are brewing indeed. One thing I am pushing myself to do is to develop a solid portfolio geared toward children's book illustration. I love doing fanart and random scribbles, comic books etc. but the one field I am really interested in entering professionally is children's book illustration. You wouldn't know it looking at this blog. Therein lies the problem. I talk a big game about wanting to make kids books but I'm not putting my pencil, inks and markers where my mouth is. I am committed to changing this. There, it's published on the internet so I have to follow through.
A bit of self-promotion before I go... I will be appearing at ComicBarCon this coming Saturday at the Nutty Irishman. I'll post richer details about it soon. It's a really fun show for those of you who are 21 and older.
I think that's all I've got for now. I hope you enjoy these drawings, thank you for visiting!
Thank you for stopping by!
-Tom
