My Pet Monster!

I never actually owned this toy as a kid. However, he turned up in my peripheral vision on plenty of occasions as many friends and relatives did own one. I always thought he was cool looking and I definitely watched the live action movie based on the toy.

I rediscovered the coolness of this character recently through my discovery of and appreciation for the art of James Groman. Mr. Groman is known for creating the 80's toys "Madballs" among many other cool toy lines. One of his other major design contributions to 80's childhood is the "My Pet Monster" doll. Well, that was a poorly conceived, poorly written, round-about as all get out way of explaining some of the motivation behind this sketch.

Let me drag it out a little further while I'm at it...I'm a very nostalgic, big kid at heart. I also happen to love gross out toys and art from the 80s and 90s so it was only a matter of time before I sketched this dude up.

Not much else to report these days. I've honestly been in a bit of a creative slump for a while. I'm trying to muster the motivation and make the time to light a serious fire of productivity under my Battle Skull project and the several children's books projects I would like to get off the ground. I feel like an upswing is just around the corner so we'll see what happens! Stay tuned here for periodic updates and fresh art.
