Awesome Art: Ramos, Capullo, Madureira
I just wanted to take a moment to highlight some of what I find to be the most exciting art/projects in comics right now. I am going to focus on the artists for this post. No disrespect to the incredible writers these gents work alongside, I just want to talk about the artists here.
First off, Humberto Ramos' Amazing Spiderman work. I've been a Ramos fan for a long time. I think the work he is doing right now on Amazing Sidey is some of the best of his career. That's saying a lot. I was late to the game as far as appreciating his recent run but I went back and re-read a lot of it and he has really been kicking all kinds of butt on this book. His rendition of Spidey and the rest of the book's colorful cast is unique and tremendously appealing. His Spidey is dynamic, full of life and energy. Ramos is a solid storyteller with a truly singular, personal style and vision. I am officially a huge fan and can't wait for more.
Next, we have Greg Capullo's Batman (directly above and below). In my opinion, Greg Capullo is the finest artist producing monthly comic books right now. I could go on at length about the things I love in Capullo's work but that's not the goal of this post. If you are not reading Batman, you need to start. As with Ramos, I've been a Capullo fan for ages. Greg's doing some of the best work of his career on Batman. He's stream-lined his style and it's a joy to behold. I think my single favorite aspect of Capullo's work is his sense of gesture. Very few comic book artists are on the same level as Capullo when it comes to gesture (as well as many other aspects of drawing.) I am very excited to see Greg's rendition of The Joker in his next Batman arc. I think the character and Greg's style are a perfect marriage. No one is drawing on the level of Greg Capullo right now, if you love great drawing, comics, art, whatever, you need to be picking up Greg's work.
Finally, here are some preview images from Joe Madureira's significant comic book project (see below this text). This may be part of Avenging Spiderman but I have read that the project has transformed over time and may be called something totally different. Whatever it ends up being called, all that matters to me is that it's Joe Madureira drawing Wolverine, Spiderman and Elektra. That's awesome no matter what you call it. Joe is my favorite comic book artist and I'm always hyped for new work from him. It's particularly exciting to see him doing actual comic books, not just covers or video game design sketches. I am anxiously awaiting the announcement of this Wolvey, Spidey, Elektra project. The little bits of preview art that have been released look incredible. Observe below...
So, these are some examples of what I am personally excited about right now in comic book art. I've been a fan of all three of these artists since I was in my early high school days and just discovering the exciting world of drawing, cartooning, comics and illustration. I love the work of these artists and it's awesome to see them still producing such great stuff.
Thanks for visiting.
More of my art coming soon!
