Scanner's back, new apartment, kids book conference...
First post from my new apartment! Updates have been slim, not only because my scanner has been down but also because life has been a bit crazy. Moving into a new apartment is/was a part of that craziness, a good part.
Anyway, my scanner is back. So, I'll hopefully be posting a wider variety of things and on a more regular basis.
In other news, I'm attending a special conference this weekend for aspiring children's book authors/illustrators called the One to One Plus at Rutgers University in NJ. Info here, http://www.ruccl.org/. It's a great opportunity. The alien guy you see here is an illustration for the business card I plan to have with me at the conference. The image directly below is the rough pencil/ink version. This represents the stage before clean inks and color are completed.
Below are a few random, handsome dudes for your enjoyment.

Lovely sketching and awesome pictures.
Way to go "T".
I just found an original piece of art by my uncle Art Saaf (see via Google images). Is a rendition of an army guy in state of exhaustion. Cardboard is falling apart so need to photo and will upload for you.
Uncle Art was a great illustrator in the early days of comics. One of his inspirations was a version of Wonder Woman. Eventually the lure of $$$ on Madison Ave caught up to him and he did some really interesting stuff for several beer clients. His "Bert and Harry Piels" characters were based upon actual relatives of second wife Thelma's uncles who lived near Rowlands, Pa. Interesting stuff. Uncle Jim
