Another New York Comic Con come and gone...
So, New York Comic Con was this past weekend in case you didn't know. My bud Wood and I had a table again this year where we tried to spread the love, also known as Bontebok Comics. Friday, first day of the show was a bit rough as the printer we used to print our books did not cut our books right and we had to have them do a rush re-print all of Friday, so we had no actual books to share/sell. So yeah, Friday we kind of just sat around, but it was a comic con so there was plenty of fun stuff to do. I occupied my self for a few moments bothering some of my idols like Jose Lopez and Sean Galloway who provided some excellent conversation and these amazing sketches you see below...
Superman (above) by Jose Lopez, check out his stuff, out of this world...http://desoluz.blogspot.com/

Hellboy (above) by the one, the only, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, one of the hottest character designers around these days, check him out...http://gotcheeks.blogspot.com/

Anyway, so Friday was a bit of a bummer but certainly had its bright points, I can't not enjoy myself at a comic book convention! Saturday, we had our books but our booth was not getting the traffic we hoped, we got a bit down in the dumps there for a while. We had an incredible encounter with a man who had bought our book at last year's convention for his son. He shared with us the tragic news that his son had passed away and he was at the convention to tell us how much the book meant to his son. It was an incredible experience and I want to do a proper post on it in the near future. We will be working on some special things with this great person. So, Saturday was worth every hour of slow business for that one unbelievable moment. Sunday finally came and things brightened up in general, we had more sales and people seemed more interested. I also got to sell off some quick head sketches which was a lot of fun. I bought a bunch of cool books too, got a good price on a Alex Ross sketchbook that I am very proud of, haha. Overall it was a cool convention with some highs and lows but I enjoyed myself in general. I love the convention atmosphere, I am surrounded by what I love and people who are into it just as much as me, that's a great thing. I don't think we will be buying a booth again next year, we plan to revise our promotional strategy. We have some really exciting projects cooking for the near future though and we will certainly be at NYCC 2009 promoting these things in new ways. Stay tuned!

Above is the cover to our latest labor of love, Bontebok Comics #2. This baby was a year in the making and I am really proud of it. It's packed from cover to cover with fun, unique stories and characters and exciting artwork! If anyone is interested in snagging a copy of this book and/or Bontebok Comics #1, drop me an e-mail or get in touch somehow and we can make it happen. Each book comes with its own sketchbook and original sketch made out to you!
