Sketch dump. The Return of Joe MAD!
This post is about sharing some of my sketches and geeking out over some of my favorite artists, Joe Madureira in particular.

Joe Madureira was one of the first artists to really blow my mind when I got into comic art and inspired me to push my own drawing. His X-men work and his own Battle Chasers contain some of my truly favorite images and works of comic art. Joe's been working in the video game business these last few years and has not done a whole lot of comic work so his return to comics with 5 issues of Ultimates 3 is a big deal. Some incredible preview images were just released, they can be seen here http://www.joemadfan.com/ and here http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=135791. I can't say I'm shocked, but I am a little frustrated with the negative reaction a lot of fans seem to be having to Joe's work on this book. They just seem so closed minded and blind to the incredible talent Joe is. To me, the book looks like it will be a lot of fun and the art is head and shoulders above pretty much any other comic art I have seen since Joe left the business, he's that damn good in my eyes. Give me exaggerated, stylized work over stale photo reff'd realism any day. Bottom line, I am incredibly pumped for this release! Joe's new game Darksiders looks awesome too, I hope a lot of his sketches and development work are released with the game in '08.

Ultimates 3 won't hit 'til December, but some great little gems are coming out this week. Travis Charest has 4 pages appearing in the Ultimates Saga special. 4 pages may not sound like much to get crazy over, but it's Travis Charest, and if you're a fan you know the value just those few pages will hold. Check out Travis' stuff if you haven't yet http://groups.msn.com/travischarest/ Cory Walker's first issue of Punisher War Journal also releases this week. Cory's the man, http://corenthal.blogspot.com/.

OK, enough geeking out, but it is a really exciting time for a comic art geek like me. Seems a lot of the big name artists who have been quiet in the business for a while are coming back in a big way and that is very cool. I'm looking forward to all the inspiring work.

So, here are my sketches, so humble compared to the guys mentioned above, but I have fun. I hope you dig them.

Thanks for visiting!

Hey, nice new sketches man! Your style is getting really good, looks awesome. The Venom is pretty awesome too. I got two questions too, if don't mind me asking.

1. What type of pencil do you use, it almost looks crayon like up close, the orange ones do at least.
2. I was just curious if you'd be interested in commission work, like if you'd draw one of my characters and we could negotiate a price. I'm short on the cash flow right now, but just thinkink about it.

Hey, just wanted to get back to ya, Thanks for the comment over on my blog too.

That'd be freaking awesome to draw one of ur characters! Sounds like we gots ourselves an art trade. If that's cool with you, it's cool with me. As for the layout of each character and so on, I'm really up for anything whether it be a sketch or a full color deal of whatever sounds good.

Whenever is good time for you, we can figure it out and start drawing!

Thanks for the quick response, and sorry for the massive post.

Yeah, I'll do one of your characters, and you can do one of mine, it'll be more interesting if we don't say who it is yet.

Thanks for wanting to do this.
