Mike Wieringo
I just got back from taking my borther to the dentist and sat down at the computer to check on a few things. One of my regular stops while surfing the net was Mike Wieringo's wonderful blog where he shared his thoughts and masterful sketches. There was no new post yet for the day so I went to another frequent stop of mine newsarama.com and saw the stunning news that Mike had passed away.
I didn't know Mike personally, though we had some correspondence between us concerning his work and I did get to see him in person at Heroes Con 2006 where I spoke to him and purchased a sketchbook. Mike always came accross as such a kind humble guy who was passionate about comics and his craft. Mike was truly one of my favorite artists, his work always inspired me and made me happy. His stuff was warm, full of energy and life. I can't believe he has been taken so soon. My condolences to his family and friends. I hope Mike is in a better place, at peace, drawing away.
The sketch accompanying this post is a sketch of Koj from Mike's creation Tellos. Mike was kind enough to do this sketch for me along with my purchase of his awesome 2007 sketchbook.
