Art Heroes: PETER DE SEVE!
For my second post in an ongoing series discussing my favorite artists, I have chosen the amazing Peter de Seve. Mr. de Seve is one of the top illustrators and character designers working today. He is famous for his covers for the New Yorker magazine, his illustration work, and his designs for many animated films, including Ice Age and Ice Age 2 where he designed basically all of the characters.
I love the humor, whimsy, and creativity of de Seve's work. He has a vivid, unique imagination and a strong personal style and vision. I'm never bored by one of his drawings or paintings, they are always filled with life and can make any story they tell interesting.
One interesting note, I have some personal experience with Peter. He actually helped me out with a high school project. I was doing my own comic for a long-term project and he agreed to be my mentor and share feedback with me concerning my work. He was very kind and actually seemed to like my stuff! I also interviewed him for the same project. I was amazed that such a top talent was willing to spare any time to help me out. I'm very thankful for it and the experience only enhanced my admiration for de Seve and his work. Years later, I actually had the chance to meet Peter in person briefly at the launch party for the fantastic book, "Out of Picture". Surprisingly, Peter remembered me and my work, he did a cool sketch of "Scrat" from Ice Age in my book. Awesome.

Below are some de Seve samples scanned from books that I own, including one of my most prized posessions, the "Peter de Seve Sketchbook", which you should buy if you have any interest in de Seve or great drawings in general. Other works here are from Illustration '05 magazine, Step by Step Graphics magazine, and "A Murder, a Mystery, and a Marriage" by Mark Twain, illustrated by de Seve (the first image at the very top of this post, before this text begins, is from that book as well). If you have questions as to where exactly these pics came from, as far as actual issue numbers of magazines and such, leave a comment or e-mail me and I'll get back to you. Enjoy the work!

To be clear, THIS IS NOT MY WORK! THE ABOVE PICTURES ARE BY PETER DE SEVE! This should be obvious, but I had a few issues with mistaken credit last time when I posted the Leyendecker stuff.
